Bodywork Training

Author: Michael Bustamante

Therapeutic Bodywork has its theoretical roots in Chinese Medicine. It is not only a massage technique, Bodywork is a theory. Bodywork poses that within the anatomy lies a history of unresolved physical and mental issues and traumas. Proper training is critical in this work.

Use of techniques of applying pressure to points of tension in the body, Bodywork massage frees the body to release blocked tension and emotions. Sometimes crying, screaming, yelling, and vibration of muscle and tissue become entities of a Bodywork session.

A Bodywork massage generally begins with monitored Chi breathing exercises, after which light massage begins on the upper body and gradually moves to lower regions. As Bodywork progresses, pressure increases and massage moves to the intercostal nerves that lie between the ribs. Sadness or joy may be experienced during this process.

The practitioner may use light touch (Chakra) massage, soft-tissue massage, deep-tissue massage, and body manipulation to evoke release. Chi breathing, gentle or extreme movement, assisted stretching, and body-awareness techniques may all be used to address physical and emotional issues during a Bodywork session. Benefits of Bodywork include relief from aches and pains, marked decreased stress levels, decreased unpleasant symptoms, improved emotional balance, and better overall health.

Chi breathing may be utilized through the duration of a Bodywork session to evoke feelings deep from within. Bodywork employs Chakra massage, a gentle touch, to balance energy in the body and release tension and stress. Bodywork is followed by an overall sense of relief and wellbeing.
